Effective Tips on Working Remotely in California

Remote work has been around for some years now, but it has become even more rampant during this time of the pandemic. It has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on the nature of your work.

Some may quickly ease into it, but there are some that may take time in getting used to the new work culture, where physical social interaction is limited. So how does one stay productive and inspired to work in this new set-up?

They say there’s always a first time for everyone, and if this is your first time to bring your office hustle in the comforts of your home, don’t worry! As exciting as it sounds, we understand how overwhelming it can be at the same time too. So we’re here to share with you a few tips for beginners and pros alike!

Preparing and Setting-Up Your Workspace

This is one of the most important things to consider first as you ease into remote work. The environment plays a big role and can greatly influence your work performance. Back in those times when you spent a big chunk of your time at the office, we bet that all you can think about is going back to the comforts of your homes after a long day at work.

Now that you’re bringing the work to a place where you consider it to be your great comfort zone, there are certain things that you must prepare for.

As comfortable as working at home sounds, you do not want to be too comfortable that we might end up falling asleep during working hours. So you have to make sure that your working area is conducive and free from temptations and distractions.

You’d want to have a working place where it’s free from noise and clutter. You wouldn’t want important paper documents to be mixed up with other things that might end up in the trash bin. Likewise, you wouldn’t want unnecessary noise disrupting you in a very important call meeting. So choose your spot wisely, and if you have companions at home, make sure you make them aware of your working hours, to avoid unnecessary interruptions.

Investing in Reliable Technology Tools

As the remote work culture continuously emerges, virtual meetings have become the latest trend to staying connected with colleagues. Various video platforms have emerged to make these virtual gatherings possible, such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams to name a few. Companies invest in them, especially that the remote work culture is greatly a part of our new normal. All video platforms have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages; it’s only a matter of choosing what will be the perfect set of tools for your organization.

Consistently and Openly Communicating With Your Colleagues

It’s certainly easier to communicate with your colleagues when you meet and see each other physically. Perhaps in the office, you can just drop by at their workstation and get a quicker turnaround time for your tasks.  In a remote working set-up, everything is done virtually through calls, chats, and emails; which actually comes at a great advantage. That way, everything is documented, which is very important in any kind of work.

Even if you are working at home, make sure to stay connected with your colleagues to ensure the smooth operations of the business.

Setting Clear Boundaries Between Being at Work and Being at Home

Now, this can be a tricky one. There might be some who are thinking that just because you’re working at home, you don’t get to have a break anymore since working at home is kind of like a vacation

Um, hold that thought because….not exactly! Working at home does not equate to that at all. This is why it’s important to set clear boundaries between work time and quality time at home. This is where work-life balance comes into the picture.

You can come up with a schedule to strictly follow, which can be helpful in drawing the line between working and attending to responsibilities at home. That way you can manage your time effectively as well.
